Then

The original 1950s family home was built by the late Len Barker, a father and family-man … but not a builder. What an achievement! The house was a testament to his skill and determination to provide a happy environment for his three children to grow up in, in The Shire. The garden was full of his prized orchids and native trees and plants, which encouraged the local flora and fauna to thrive.
The weatherboard house originally had three bedrooms and one bathroom, but in time a large extension was added to the southern side which created a large living space as well as adding an en suite bathroom.
In 2010 Jo and Bob moved in and added their touches, ripping up the shag pile carpet, painting the walls and updating the kitchen and bathroom. Little Amy was born there in 2008 and again it was a happy home filled with kid, parties and pets – three cats and two rabbits!

Now

And so, ten years later, the much loved old home makes way for it’s grand replacement.
I think Len would be proud of the property it has become. I’m not so sure about Iris. I don’t think she would have liked the change, but the new property is built with love and care and need, and that, I hope, she would have understood.
Thank you old house for making our time there memorable, allowing us to create a future with new memories for the next generation of Barkers.
